Black Widow
QEP Black Widow Diamond Blades for Porcelain and Hard Tile
Porcelain is dense and brittle, so it requires a good blade to work with. The QEP Black Widow blade is designed for this type of material.
The rims of each blade are 7 mm diamond-coated, which is higher than normal tile blades, so that you can get more cuts out of it before the diamond wears out. The edge is divided into micro-segments with diamond-shaped laser cutouts. This allows water to penetrate the cut faster, keeps the steel core cooler, and reduces wobble and chipping.
A porcelain tile blade is also capable of cutting ceramic, marble, and granite tile. On a kitchen floor and backsplash job, you keep one blade on the saw instead of two.
Choosing Blade Size and Saw Compatibility for Your Black Widow Diamond Blade
Both sizes listed here feature a 5/8" arbor and 0.060" blade thickness, and both are rated for wet cutting only.
-
7" (6-7008BW): 8,730 max RPM. Compact 7" wet saws for backsplashes, shower walls and trim.
-
10" (6-1008BW): 6,115 max RPM. Fits 10” sliding-table and bridge saws for floor tile and larger formats.
Check two numbers prior to ordering. Your saw needs a 5/8" arbor, and its spindle speed can’t exceed the blade’s maximum RPM. A saw with a 20 mm or 7/8" arbor needs a different blade.
Getting Clean Cuts and Longer Blade Life
Run water on both sides of the blade before it hits the tile. Feed porcelain more slowly than ceramic. If you are working at maximum effort, reduce your exertion.
Take it easy on the final inch of all cuts. Most breakout occurs when the blade exits the tile. Keep the glazed face up on a sliding-table saw. Replace water when it becomes thick with slurry, as dirty water will wear away the rim and roughen the edge.
After each job, rinse and dry the blade. Inspect for any cracks or broken rim before you mount it again.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the Black Widow blade dry?
Not the 7" or 10" models. QEP rates both for wet cutting and for running them dry, which causes the rim to overheat and the core to warp.
Will the 7” Black Widow fit my tile saw?
It fits saws that require a 7" blade on a 5/8" arbor and operate at 8,730 RPM or less. Check the motor label or your saw's manual.
Does the Black Widow blade cut granite and marble?
Yes. QEP rates it for granite, marble, ceramic, and porcelain tile. For the 2 cm or 3 cm countertop slabs, a special stone blade will be more durable.
How do I know when the blade needs dressing?
Cuts slow down, you have to apply more pressure, and the rim is shiny rather than gritty. Run three or four passes through a dressing stone or soft cinder block with the water on.
Is a micro-segmented blade better than a continuous rim blade for porcelain?
It depends on the cut. A continuous rim gives the smoothest edge but runs hot in dense porcelain. A micro-segmented Black Widow diamond blade stays cooler, cuts faster, and cleans the edge sufficiently for most cuts.
