Dremel

Dremel tools handle the detail work bigger tools can't reach, like notching porcelain around an outlet box, trimming seized bolts flush, or cleaning up a weld in a tight corner. Our collection covers the 4000 and 4300 Dremel rotary tools, Multi-Max oscillating kits, and Dremel accessories such as EZ Lock cut-off wheels, diamond wheels, and 75- to 160-piece accessory sets.

Dremel Tools for Cutting, Grinding and Detail Work

A rotary tool is useful when you need to notch a tile around a box, trim a seized bolt flush, or clean up a weld in a corner where an angle grinder cannot reach. Dremel tools are designed for that kind of small, careful work. Our collection includes corded rotary tools, Multi-Max oscillating tools, an engraver, the wheels, bits, and attachments that make them useful on a jobsite or at your workbench.

Most of the results come from the tip. A rotary tool can cut, sand, grind, polish, and carve at up to 35,000 RPM, but only with the right accessory at the right speed.

Dremel Rotary Tools: 4000 and 4300 Kits

Both corded models have variable-speed operation, ranging from 5,000 to 35,000 RPM. They work with the same attachments. Differences are apparent when changing bits and when working in poor light.

The 4000-2/32 uses a collet system. Each shank size uses a different collet and nut: changing from a 1/8" bit to a 3/32" bit requires changing the collet and nut. Dremel's kit codes show the contents of the case: this one includes 2 attachments and 32 accessories.

The 4300-5/40 replaces the collet with a three-jaw keyless chuck that will hold any shank from 1/32" to 1/8" without the need for additional parts. The nose comes with an LED pivot light, which comes in handy when grinding under a sink or inside a vanity. The kit includes 5 attachments and 40 accessories.

Both Dremel rotary tools fit the 575 Right Angle Attachment that allows the working head to be rotated 90 degrees for spots such as the back of a toilet flange or inside a cabinet face frame. The MM50 and MM30 Multi-Max kits solve the problems of the rotary tool for jobs such as plunge cuts in trim, drywall, and flooring. No wrench is required to change the blades on the MM50.

Matching the Right Dremel Bit to Your Material

Your cut depends more on the speed and type of abrasive than the motor's power. These are default options - test on scrap first:

  • Steel and hardened bolts: reinforced cut-off wheels, at 25,000 RPM or higher. Maintain straight body position. When side pressure is applied, it snaps.

  • Aluminum and brass: speeds of approximately 15,000 to 20,000 RPM do not clog the abrasive.

  • Plastic and PVC: under 15,000 RPM. The higher the speed, the more the kerf is closed behind the wheel.

  • Wood: high speed with sanding drums or carving bits.

  • Ceramic and porcelain tile: the 545 Diamond Wheel at high speed, in short, light passes.

Dremel accessories wear out faster than the tool itself, so buying wheels in bulk packs saves money if you cut metal often. The EZ Lock cutting and sanding kits (EZ728-01 and EZ686-01) allow you to switch quickly between cutting and grinding. The 290 Engraver features a carbide point that scribes steel, glass, and wood for marking tools and equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the differences between the Dremel 4000 and 4300?

Both share the same 5,000 to 35,000 RPM speed range. The 4300 has an LED pivot light and a three-jaw keyless chuck for fitting any shank from 1/32" to 1/8". The 4000 uses interchangeable collets and has no built-in light.

Are Dremel accessories compatible across all Dremel rotary tools?

Most bits are 1/8" shank and are compatible with every current Dremel rotary tool. Collet models require a corresponding 1/32" shank collet for use. EZ Lock wheels require the EZ402 mandrel. Before purchasing attachments for older models, please check the compatibility list.

Is it possible to cut porcelain or ceramic tile with a Dremel tool?

Yes, for notches, outlet cutouts, and trimming small pieces. Use a 545 Diamond Wheel, and make shallow passes. Use a wet saw or tile cutter for long straight cuts. Use eye protection and a dust mask, as tile dust contains silica.

What does EZ Lock mean on Dremel cut-off wheels?

EZ Lock is Dremel's mounting system that requires no tools. Retract the collar off of the EZ402 mandrel, put the wheel on, and release it. No screw or wrench is required, making wheel changes take a few seconds.

What is the best Dremel accessory kit for a beginner?

The 709-02 110-piece set of cutting, sanding, grinding, and polishing tools is very reasonably priced. If you wish to have a storage case, go with the 710-08 160-piece kit. For most metal cutting jobs, use the EZ406 EZ Lock Starter Kit.

Do Multi-Max blades fit other oscillating tool brands?

Blades with the ‘U’ in the part number, like MM482U, are universal and will fit most oscillating tools without an adapter. Only Starlock accessories fit tools that require Starlock mounts. Make sure your tool has a blade mount before ordering.
